Our Commitment to Privacy

Ignitephysio.ca (the “Website”) is a website operated by Clinical Marketing Inc. (“CMI”), also referred to as “we”, “us”, or “our”). The Website in intended for viewing, use and to promote practice-related discussions by and among physiotherapists qualified to practice in Canada, or intending to practice in Canada, including internationally qualified physiotherapists, physiotherapy students, researchers, and administrators (“PT Users”). PT Users must be residing in Canada to use the site.

PT users of the Website acknowledge that any patient assessment or treatment information referred to by them in postings to the Website must not contain any identifiable personal information about such patients, and those PT Users acknowledge that they remain at all times subject to the applicable privacy or health information legislation governing their business or employer.

At the Website, we are committed to protecting the personal information given to us by users. We manage your personal information in accordance with all applicable privacy laws.

This Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) is notice to you of how your personal information will be collected, used, stored and disclosed if you choose to use the Website. If you do not want to your personal information handled pursuant to the terms in this Policy, you may not use the Website. We may change or update this Policy at any time, and those changes will be in effect as soon as they are posted on the Website. You are also agreeing to follow any changed or updated terms of this Policy when they are posted, so check this Policy often.

What Personal Information Do We Collect and Why?

What is personal information?: Personal information is information about an identifiable individual user of the Website.

We collect certain personal information connected with registered user profiles:

a) If you are a PT User and choose to create a user profile on the Website, we collect the following personal information: a username (which is your email address) a password (that you create), an email address, your preferences such as choice of avatar, and user profile information such as geographic location, area of practice, physiotherapy subject matter of interest to you, and other information that will determine your user preferences for the Website;

b) Analytics data about your use of the password-protected section Website, and about others’ use and viewing of information you have posted;

c) For registered PT Users located in Alberta, CMI has agreed to provide aggregated, non-identifying data to Physiotherapy Alberta College + Association regarding use of the Website by Alberta PT Users, to allow Physiotherapy Alberta College + Association to assess the value of providing funding for enhancements to the Website for the benefit of Alberta PT Users;

d) We also use your username, password, and email address to ensure the security of the Website and to contact you if you forget your password or have trouble logging into your user account.

Use of email addresses: We may use your email address to contact you to:

  • Reach out to assist and support you in participating on the website
  • Provide you with weekly site and content updates
  • Notify you of activity in relation to your posts, responses to your posts, and areas of interest
  • Notify you of information regarding relevant events and new products/services being offered by ignitephysio.ca.
  • Send you occasional survey requests and/or survey questions for content and site evaluation
  • Respond to you if you have contacted us to ask for additional information
  • Notify you of any incidents involving apparently improper use of your email address or user profile;

We may also use an in-app messaging system on the Website to communicate with you.

Use of Cookies and Similar Technologies

Our servers may collect domain names and/or IP addresses of users to measure use of the Website, administer the Website, improve content and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. We do not link IP addresses to personally identifiable information. Specific sections of the Website require the acceptance of cookies (a file placed in a user’s computer), or may contain tags or “marketing pixels” that will retain information that identifies your computer’s browser address on other websites to display focused advertising messages for you. We use cookies and similar technologies only to enhance your experience when using our site, to improve search functionality or to hold information for your convenience that you would otherwise need to re-key.

Is Personal Information Shared with Anyone?

We only use personal information for internal purposes: It is primarily CML employees who will have access to personal information about users. Consultants or contractors may have limited access to personal information, if access is necessary for the performance of their duties. For example, our Website or computer consultants may have access to personal information from time to time to ensure performance and functioning of the Website. Also, our computer consultants will assist with the storage of personal information. An external, United States-based company will provide our e-mail service and PT User database hosting functions, and therefore any personal information in your user profile will be stored outside of Canada.

We disclose personal information only with consent or where permitted by law: We will not sell your personal information, or make it available to advertisers. We will only disclose personal information with consent or where this is permitted by law, including in response to a court order, or pursuant to a lawful request by a government agency.

How Do We Protect Your Privacy?

Our staff and volunteers are trained to appreciate the importance of privacy and the confidentiality of personal information.

Also, we make every reasonable effort to ensure the security of the personal information in our possession, including by taking the following measures:

We ensure that physical and technical safeguards are in place to secure personal information.

We implement administrative safeguards to restrict access to personal information to those with a need to access the information.

We only maintain personal information for as long as we require it in accordance with our retention policy. Personal information that is no longer required will be rendered non-identifying or securely destroyed. However, to maintain the effectiveness of the Website as a useful information source for PT Users, we may retain information from your user profile to allow posted content connected with you to remain useable on the Website for an unlimited time, even if your registration has been inactivated.

Linking to Other Websites

Please remember that, if you use a link to go from the Website to another website, the privacy provisions of this policy are no longer in effect with respect to any personal information that may be disclosed on such third party websites or services. Your activities and interaction on any other website, including websites that have a link on this Website, is subject to that website's own rules and policies. Please review those privacy rules and policies before proceeding.

Accessing and Correcting Personal Information

You have a right to access records containing your personal information, subject to certain lawful restrictions. We may charge a reasonable fee for such access requests.

We rely on users to make changes to the personal information in their user profile. You may also request correction of your personal information. If you request a correction of your personal information, we will correct the information as soon as is reasonably possible, subject to legal limitations.

Requests for access or correction of personal information should be made in writing to our Privacy Officer, who will make every reasonable effort to assist you.

We Will Respond to Your Concerns
